This November issue of MCERL has a special meaning for me.

It is with great pleasure, emotion, and pride that I can say that all the major chess engines are now on our Macs for good! 😊

Many excellent chess engines joined in this edition. Let's start with real giants like Obsidian and Integral, through the extremely powerful Elixir, Alexander and Heimdall, to interesting projects written in Java - Serendipity, Calvin and Bagatur. I was also very impressed by Schonemann, which scored a strong debut with a rating above 3200.

November's MCERL, is one of the landmark releases, where we see that several chess engines are starting to approach Stockfish in playing strength.
Obsidian 14 scored a skyrocketing 3787 CElo (Computer Elo) and won a well-deserved number 2 spot among the strongest by as much as 37 points ahead of the next engine on the list, Alexandria 7.1.1.
Stormphrax - the consistency with which the author develops his engine is astonishing. Stormphrax is confidently moving up the rating list - version 6.0.0 has joined the best of the best, overtaking such heavyweights as RubiChess and Berserk.
Integral 5, confirmed its reputation with an incredibly convincing entry into MCERL getting as high as 3739 CElo leaving behind Dragon by Komodo Chess among others.

Noteworthy is an intriguing chess engine project called Alexander.
Alexander is ShashChess (chess engine derived from Stockfish) without a neural network (nnue). Impressive is the playing power of this engine (3571), which in version 3.0 tops even the last Stockfish using traditional evaluation (Stockfish 310720 (last with hce) - 3529 ). Could it be that Alexander is the strongest chess engine that does not use a neural network ?

There were also newcomers who are just taking their first steps in our rating list - such as Toad and Sentinel. It's wonderful that we can welcome new chess engines every month!

MCERL is an open competition in which all chess engines can participate. It is with great respect that I observe their continuous development - the developers put a lot of effort to strengthen their creations. Outstanding examples here are such powerhouses as Stormphrax, Alexandria, Sirius, and many others.

Particularly impressive is the development of the chess engine with the graceful name Princhess. Version 0.9.0 has achieved a rating of 2408, and the latest, 0.19.0, has already reached 3315 points. Amazing progress!

In conclusion, I would like to give a special thanks to all the developers whose commitment made it possible for me to include their chess engines in this issue of MCERL. Thanks to you, computer chess continues to develop, and we can admire this extraordinary world “painted” by the works of your talent.
